The Compassionate Challenge

May You Be Happy...

In celebration of our beloved Thich Nhat Hanh's 90th birthday this week, we are continuing our Mindful Challenges with the Compassionate Challenge. For this upcoming week we ask you to challenge yourself to be your most compassionate self. The starting point is towards yourself, a harder task than imagined.  As Thich Nhat Hahn very accurately says, "Compassion is a verb." How can we help alleviate or reduce the stress in others? Can you put this at the forefront of your behaviour every day for the next week? You may be surprised at the positive impact it has on you. Maybe you will want to continue being a more compassionate being every day.

One way that you can practice compassionate daily is through the May You Be Happy meditation. It is one of our favourites. Simply bring to your mind the image of a loved one into your mind and really try to connect with the essence of that person, then say to them "may you be happy" and send them your truest best wishes, and move on to someone else. Bonus points when you do this for someone that you are having struggles with. Try starting with at least three people, see how it feels, and go from there.

In separateness lies the world’s great misery, in compassion lies the world’s true strength.” ~Buddha

In case you missed it, after dozens of requests over the years, we have brought back our watches for a limited time. They are part of our celebration of and closing of our Signature line so they are not available on our website, only through our studio (by visit or phone call if you aren't local) or we will have them at the upcoming the One of a Kind show here in Toronto at the end of November.

Our special timepieces provide wearable reminders to “inhale… exhale… smile… release…”, to take things “one moment at a time”, and always “be true to yourself”.

I also want to take a moment to mention that we are making changes to our website and have resolved some issues. Specifically, if you have had problems in the past saying that we don't ship to your area please try again! Please know that we are continually working to improve our website so if you ever have problems with your online shopping experience please let us know.

Enjoy your compassionate week!

Warmly,

The Mindful Necessities Team
