No place better for fruits of the earth

by Gisele Theriault August 18, 2019

I’m in the hills of Umbria and Tuscany seeking out the perfect place for a retreat. During this time I’m giving the body a break and practicing intermittent fasting using the 16/8 principal. Fasting for 16 hours and able to eat during the other 8.

We are basically eating fresh fruit and vegetables two meals a day. Here in the hills this feels more like a blessing than a challenge. The extraordinary flavours of the tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, peaches, apricots and greens here keep you fully present to the awe that is happening in the mouth. It’s almost as if you’re eating these veg for the first time, or something awakens a familiarity of how things use to taste. No distractions can take you away from what fresh food can taste like at it’s absolute best. Is it the sun? Perhaps.

If you are looking for a feeling of renewal in your energy, I’d highly recommend reading up on the benefits of intermittent fasting.

What we have been eating here is nurturing the culinary component for a retreat for sure. We are currently outside of Assisi, the City of Peace and have just seen the most inspiring property to date. It’s a country home with a lot of potential as a base for a memorable week. It’s the first place that has checked all the boxes, including enchanting.

The private grounds alone are enough to create a nourishing experience with a long outdoor dining table under a cascading mulberry tree, a fruit orchard, a pool, an outdoor open brick building for meditation, yoga, art, a little cinema and a separate old wood burning pizza oven. The stone house sleeps twelve comfortably with plenty of space to sprawl out and the owner’s upgrades kept the old beams and charm of a country homestead. What more can I say? As you can see I am a little inspired, so please wish me lots of luck in negotiating the availability for our possible dates.

I’ll keep you posted. Until then, stay in touch.

With peace and love to you from Assisi and the hills of Umbria.
