How much do we really need to be happy?

Trish Newport created a little home around her yoga mat when she visited the Yukon in her mid 20's and fell in love with the life there. Although the house has been completely framed and sided since, it was canvas over frame for 10 years with a little wood stove inside. She said that she would go to bed each night and thank the stars for her good fortune to be there. I met Trish at Downward Dog and her clear and easy smile hooked me into a world of questions. We started talking about the winter Toronto was having. She was not bothered by the cold as much as the noise on every level. Within her tiny 5 foot frame is a bright young warrior. Trish would beam as she talked about the opportunity to be self reliant and harmonious with nature. Trish works with Médecins Sans Frontières - Doctors Without Borders. One of the simpler and poignant stories she shared was a rich perspective in light of what we think we 'need.' When she shows urbanites photos of where she lives they seem perplexed. When she's on the border of Somalia and shows pics to people there, they say "Lovely! How many of you live there?" Trish lives our message fully that 'everything you need is within you' This powerful message on the Tam ring reminds us daily the value of perspective. From the focus of our studio to the lining of your heart, live fully. ~ Gisele
