Happy New Year!
There is an annual end of year ritual that I always look forward to and savour the process. I’ve done it for years and have done it for my business and with my children and friends.
Every year of our life forms us, influences us, and shapes us a little more as to how we are in the world. What were those details of this year? What do we want to hang on to? What do we want to let go of? Taking the time to expand our lens to the broad picture is the only way to see how we really are in our heart of hearts and how we fit in the world.
Make yourself cozy in one of your favourite quiet places to be. Put on some music that enables you to be reflective or enjoy the silence. Set yourself up to write with paper or a journal, pens, pencils, markers, you could even use paints if you’ll wanted to. Have a beverage handy and anything that will allow you to be still until you’re done.
One page will be dedicated to the current year that’s coming to an end. The other is for the year upon us.
For the closing year, list or collage:
Experiences that moved you, little victories or big ones, challenges, losses, the greatest gifts, deepest suffering, darkest moments, places you’ve touched or touched you, people that influenced you, most cherished teachers, greatest teachings, unexpected interactions that influenced you. List anything that formed the moments of your year.
From these reflections on a separate page write your aspirations for the unfolding year. From things you’d like to change, experience, learn or offer. List how do you’d like to see yourself in the world and what footprints you’d like to leave behind.
I have created a meditation that will help to set the platform for this exercise. You can do it anytime but prior to writing has been beneficial. (I really wanted to send this meditation and the only time to record it was at home, so welcome to my home and please excuse the white noise;)
As we enter another 365 days around the sun, thank you for walking with me along this precious journey and from me to you, forge on with fearless heart.
with love, a lotus and a smile
