Notes from Gisele: Part 2 - Detoxing

August 06, 2015

I was recently asked for guidance on detoxing. When circumstance makes detoxing mandatory it is easier in some ways to stay on track but it holds intense pressure on many other levels. I'll not suggest you wait for an emergency.  If I were to share ways of taking back your life from habits and patterns and return to the roots of your soul, I'd suggest you approach it slowly, one level at a time and make it a love affair. We cannot effectively renew our health in one area alone. Besides detoxing the body, we need to give the same attention to our mind and spirit which I will address more later. 20150801_1111 Detoxing the body is a wonderful gift that will affirm the fruit of your efforts relatively quickly. Most people that I know felt better sooner than they anticipated. Of course if you want remarkable results, take your commitment seriously.  Take a break from processed foods, (anything with additives, preservatives or ingredients you can't pronounce) white flour, sugar, gluten, carbs, stimulants- coffee, black tea, alcohol, drugs. There are many books on detoxing. One powerful book that has been around for a long time is called Detoxify of Die by Sherry Rogers. It's title is harsh but it is an easy and poignant read. I'm a big supporter of the knowledge that greens will save your life. One of the best ways to get over the shock of removing our comforts is to replace them with amazing things. Adding superfoods such as spirulina and chlorella to smoothies for example is one thing. Good oils to our diet like avocado, flax oil, hemp, fish oils are amazing. Most people seem to be deficient in oils. Up the quality of your foods and minimize the quantity. Don't forget to exercise daily, output is super important. If you are like me and can find many reasons to not have enough time to exercise, do at least the 7 Minute Scientific Workout. There are free apps available on all smart phones. It will give you a good workout and takes little time. DELICIOUS RECIPES THAT WILL HELP YOU CELEBRATE BEING ALIVE AND PART OF THIS AMAZING LIFE Green Smoothie
  • 1 cup of good water
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1" chunk of fresh organic ginger or 1/2tsp organic powdered ginger
  • 1 cup of diced pineapple (or mango)
  • 2 cups of diced kale, spinach, arugula, cilantro, parsley (all or any dark leafy greens)
  • heaping spoon of Spirulina and Chlorella
  • 1 tbsp of flax oil
  • blend until smooth
  • enjoy
If you don't have a high speed blender like a Vitamix, investing in the small yet powerful Nutribullet is excellent and not too steep on the pocketbook. I make sure that I have a Nutribullet wherever I travel to. My body thanks me for a green smoothie everyday. Here is just one smoothie variation, the sky is the limit. Over time you will learn the alchemy of mixing your flavours with your body's needs. Until next time, send love for all life G
