In our own lives we have observed that there’s a lot of truth in the saying “the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know.” Once you start to expand it can become an insatiable thirst. That spirit is a big part of Mindful Necessities and something we are aiming to nurture. We live in such a distracted world that we actually have to teach ourselves to let our mind slow down so that we can be more present to what matters and absorb what we take in.
Our founder, Gisele, is in San Francisco for the upcoming Wisdom 2.0 conference. For those unfamiliar with the event, it brings leaders from various spiritual, neuroscience and technology fields together to discuss how “to find meaningful purposeful lives within the context of this digital world” according to its founder Soren Gordhamer. She also took in the Unconference at Google Headquarters. I am sure that she will have some wonderful insights to share from this experience. She is at the conference with Mindful Cloud from Vienna, a company whose focus is “mindful media and technology for personal and social transformation.” We are working on a very exciting project with them for a forthcoming children’s film that they are working on based on Thich Nhat Hanh’s Planting Seeds of Mindfulness book. More information on this will be released soon.
She of course made time to visit with the magical redwoods first and stopped by Spirit Rock Meditation Centre (photographed above). Needless to say, she was inspired. Coinciding with our February theme, Evolve, we recently launched an Education area on our website. Even though it is in its primary stage, the response to it has been great. It has really motivated us to push deeper to find an array of tools to help us all bring ourselves back to a state of mindfulness. We have workshops and a retreat (to Ireland!) up on the website now, but look for it to expand into guided meditations and more to help cultivate balance.
On the topic of evolution, what does “evolve” mean to you? We started off with jewelry that could be used as a touchstone to take us back to the present moment, back to ourselves and a deeper meaning. As a company when we realized that we could do more we stepped up to the plate to bring you Mindful Necessities. There are so many ways to let oneself grow… Through curiosity, yoga, meditation, continuing education, reading, traveling, these are just to name a few. Really, when you are practicing mindfulness in whatever activity you are taking on you are allowing yourself to evolve. As an important component of our community, we’d love you to share what works for you? It may be exactly what someone else is looking for. Is there anything that you have been wishing for that could help deepen your mindfulness or meditation practice? Soon we will start to share some simple tools and methods that work for us and invite you to do the same. We would love to hear about what brings you inner peace.
